Debian Stable can be made as nice as any other Linux desktop OS. It takes a little work getting a Debian Stable setup with codecs and flash and some polish to make it look good on a desktop. But once done, you won't have to worry about updates breaking it or creating bugs. I have never once regretted using Debian Stable, in fact I'm using it right now :-)

Mint will never do it, but if they offered a Debian Stable version with updated Firefox and Thunderbird and put some Mint polish and codecs on it, there would be little complaining about the finished product IMO :-) But it won't happen.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

mint didn't do it but solydxk team did that nicely :3
their BE (business edition) and BO (back office) edition are both based on debian stable with firefox, thunderbird, and almost everything you need. if you really like debian stable, there is actually a lot of distro based on it. http://distrowatch.com/search.php?ostyp ... tus=Active
you might only have heard few of them thou.

I wasn't talking on looks per-se. Updates aren't the source of all evil - you might just as well walk into a bug that was fixed by an update you didn't get.

If you want Stable, use Debian Stable. But I don't see what would be the additional value of a respin of Debian Stable.

If done right, they do take a good deal of work off your hands. Not everyone can or wants to deal with pure debian.
