Is there an A+ equvilant certification for Linux
I realize it may be a challenge given the multiple different distro's, but is there some type of standard certification similar to the Windows A+ (CompTIA) for Linux?

Depends on what you want.
For your personal education edX and Linux Foundation are doing a free online course starting in August: https://www.edx.org/course/linuxfoundat ... ction-1621
For value on your resume and use in enterprise world, there is really only RedHat certification as an industry recognized standard: http://www.redhat.com/training/certific ... ifications. You can train for RedHat certification using the freely available CentOS.
Linux Professional Institute also has several certifications: https://www.lpi.org/linux-certifications. AFAIK they don't carry the same value on your resume as RedHat certificates.

Yeah the redhat scam is unfortunately what converts to cash.
I call it a scam ,cause you need to renew it every 1,5 y. Much like the cisco scam.

I would say LPI (Linux Professional Institute) is more advanced than A+ a technician how to use a computer diploma/certficate, of fairly limited value, but maybe a reasonable base

I would be willing to pay for a Microsoft workstation course, as that tends to explain a lot about the OS as installed--but not servers or associated services (domains, LANs, TCP/IP) etc..

Linux/UNIX certificates. might be a little Novell I don't think is a company any longer...

Re: Is there an A+ equvilant certification for Linux
Try the CompTIA Linux+, get that and register it with LPI and get their cert too! I am currently studying for CompTIA Network+ to add to my A+. I have all the study materials (pdf of book, tutorial videos etc,) for the two Linux+ exams for when I have completed my current studies, if you are interested in a copy.....
