Stupidest reasons for not using Linux over Windows

Postby Yownanymous on Fri Feb 13, 2009 5:10 pm

There's one of these over on Ubuntu Forums, and I thought it might be fun to bring it over here.

The stupidest thing I ever heard was:
"I heard it's crap."
Try using it before taking what you hear about things as necessarily true?
When cometh the day we lowly ones,
Through quiet reflection, and great dedication

Lo, we shall rise up,
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

"I play games and I am too dumb/poor to get an X-Box, PS3 or Wii..."

"I like getting spyware and viruses, it is a challenge :D "

"What's Linux?"

edit: <banging fist on head> Shoot, how stupid of me, how could I forget:

"Because Linux is not ready to replace Windows!!!"

Is solving all our problems spying on us, slowing our hardware down and annoying us to bits? If so, solve away! You'll find me in a decade with the working computer. :D

" Isn't that just hackerware?"

" I thought that was a virus." Not kidding.

" When I go to my programs, it fills up the entire screen, I don't think I have room for it." Again, not kidding.

" No viruses. So I still have to use windows to go on the internet then, right? And once again....................

The stupidest reason that I have heard so far is that multimedia just works in Windows. What a load of crap! Install Vista and try to play multimedia.

Oh, "That's illegal, you are a hacker aren't you? Your computer has to have Windows!"
Actually heard this. Ahhhh!
The "it's too hard" just sickens me.

Found another one off the same idiot, while I was trying desperately to explain to him what Linux could do, the poor guy's so disillusioned he thinks Windows could do it better:
"Linux isn't as smart as Windows."

Some of these are particularly good at raising my blood pressure...

"Linux isn't as smart as Windows."

Really, if someone told me that in the course of a conversation I would have to say,

"Really? I have never heard that? Alrighty then, I sure wouldn't want you to use something inferior. Good luck my friend, you are obviously way smarter than I am. :) "

I got a corker with a Youtube comment recently. I'd said that Linux was better than Mac or Windows (in my opinion a fair statement) and the reply I got back was, to say the least, quite explicit and moronish ("In your dreams c**k sucker). I simply replied back, coolly: "Thankyou for that very cultured and educated reply, you obviously seem a very intelligent person, so I guess we should all just drop Linux this very moment."

Edit: In retrospect I think that was possibly a Mac fanboy... The one thing on this Earth worse than a Windows troll.

I heard one today, as a matter of fact. It was in a Waffle House restaurant, of all places. A guy, who supposedly worked on computers at a local Best-Buy store, told me it was illegal to use Linux. According to him, Linux is a "hackers" tool that can be used on notebooks to break into systems. All you had to do was get close to them with a notebook using Linux. He actually believed Linux was like burglar tools and was illegal to even have it, especially on a notebook!

I tried to keep a straight face and just listen and learn, but it was hard. It was pointless to try to tell him otherwise. He was convinced, and was a self proclaimed expert. :-)

If Windows is so professional, why does it crash so much?

My favourite is:

"you have to compile apps"

particularly because it is continually repeated in the press as well as in forums.

Let's see, last time I compiled an app was...
Never! I never had to!
