Ohio Linux Fest 2009

Postby Colonel Schell on Tue Sep 15, 2009 3:08 pm

Columbus, Ohio will again host the Ohio Linux Fest, which this year runs from September 25-27.

The event will take place at the Hyatt Regency/Columbus Convention Center (they're linked), and feature well known speakers Shawn Powers (Linux Journal), Cat Allman (Google Open Source Outreach), Jorge Castro (External Relations Development for Canonical, Ltd.), Paul Cutler (Gnome), Bdale Garbee (Debian), Peter Graner (Ubuntu Kernel Manager, Canonical, Ltd.), Dru Lavigne (Editor-in-chief, Open Source Business Resource, and Chair of the BSD Certification Group), Mackenzie Morgan (Ubuntu, Sysadmin for Rosetta Stone), and, last but certainly not least, the keynote speaker,Dr. Douglas McIlroy, who developed UNIX pipes and UNIX tools such as spell, diff, sort, join, graph, speak and tr, as well as pioneering component based software engineering. Dr. McIlroy was at the head of Bell Laboratories Computer Techniques Research Department, contributing to the birth of UNIX.

Interested? More information is available at the website: http://www.ohiolinux.org/about.html

And, yes, I will be there, but only after 3 pm Saturday. :(

I would love to go, but sadly I have another obligation that weekend. Let us know how it goes!
They'll all look at me and say,
Hey look at him! I'll never live that way.
But that's okay -
They're just afraid to change.

I am sick today, and the Ohio Linux Fest is just one day away, for all the early birds out there. Hopefully, it will pass. (The illness, I mean. Not the Fest).

I mention this because I originally thought I could show up tomorrow night (Fri.) a little before 5pm to see if any Minters showed up to do a Birds of a Feather meeting/get-together, especially since I know there will be a Puppy user there from Canada, and I want to meet him IRL.

Even if that doesn't work out, I could just check the place out before Saturday, since this is my first Linux event. Provided I'm well enough to go.

Again, on Saturday I will probably not be there until three or after, since somebody requested this weekend off at work and I have to cook (it's what I do) until 2:30.

I'll still be wearing green (top and bottom...Mint, you know) and a black computer themed hat (baseball cap).

Oh, yeah, and the eerie green glow...you can't miss me. Did I mention the Frankenstein forehead? Oh, well, you won't see that under the hat.

Someone else was there, but he missed my posts here. Or did the green glow scare him away? Next to the big guy in black wearing the kilt, I thought I looked rather harmless.

Oh, yeah, and one other thing:
I went to B'dale Garbee's talk, as you know already, and I was all ready in case he asked THE questions, in order: (you know which ones, but I'll list them anyway)

1"How many of you use Debian?" (Many hands went up, much to his satisfaction.)
2. "How many of you are using Ubuntu?" (Many more hands went up)
AND at this point I was expecting something on the order of, So how many are using other Debian derived distributions?, but instead he said, "So what's the matter with the rest of you?"

My distro is based on the Ubuntu kernel, but it is not Ubuntu. I felt as though the grandchildren were being left-out. :(
