Ah, the first distro I ever installed has reached version 12.0. This is the FIRST version to include a 2.6 kernel by default. THAT'S how conservative Patrick is!

I used Slack right up until a few months ago when I discovered Mint. Slack was great, but spending over a day customizing it was a pain. And in terms of packages, Ubuntu's is the Big Dawg. EVERYONE'S got a Ubuntu package for their program. I still raise a glass to the great Slackware. Long live Pat and the king of old school distros. It's because of Slackware that I know linux, instead of just being able to hack around on a single distro.

Same here. I started on Slackware, I used it for a very long time, always loved it and it taught me nearly all I know about Linux. I would recommend it to anybody who's interested in learning more about the system. I eventually went away from it because I wanted APT :)

I am downloading it now via bittorrent, and I plan to dual-boot Slackware 12 with my current Fedora 7 deesktop on my main box, just to get a feel of it... Plus it will give me a little KDE flavor, since I use Gnome all the time...
