Have you had a chance to check it out dequire?

I ran the Live DVD and I didn't care for it too much.

They use KDE 3.5, which I don't really feel like learning.

Other than that it does look promising.

VLC and Songbird are installed by default.

Definitely not for me though.

The KDE 3.5 hardliners may like it. :)

Hi there. I'm downloading it now for a looksie and a review. Songbird, with the right plugins, totally rocks.

Interesting, built on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and it has about every application for every use that you could ever imagine. OpenOffice does not work, at least from the Live DVD but other than that everything else seems to work.

Edit: RevLinuxOS is a pretty cool project, they have some really good ideas and people that are new to Linux would have a very easy time getting used to the system. People that like KDE 3.5.10 would really appreciate RevLinuxOS too, it ran fast on the Live DVD. These guys even addressed the black screen with usplash issue, they used splashy as many have wanted for a long time. I hope the RevLinuxOS developers keep going with this, they are doing a nice job and many could benefit from the hard work they are doing.

What GCC are they using, and how up to date are the libs? I see it was kernel 2.6.24, what about those with newer hardware, does this stand a chance of working on newer systems with newer printers and such? Nice project I must agree if it works well on newer and older hardware, certainly new users will be stymied if they need to go find backports?

These guys have their own repo set up. I saw it when I was checking for updates from the Live CD. It is based on Ubuntu 8.04.3 and is pretty up to date. Maybe the next release will be built on 10.04. These guys have some good ideas and deserve some credit for their efforts. There is even a RevLinuxOS control center. I admire the way they are doing things their own way, like using splashy. I hope they do well with their release.

How much of your hardware was detected and set up correctly from the livecd?

Everything worked, it even set the resolution right for my 25" wide screen monitor. I was surprised!

I'm enjoying playing around with it! Thanks, exploder, for beating me to it ;)

I don't think I could go back to KDE 3.5.x, but I know many people who would prefer to stay there. And we can all get ideas from other's work. In coming from another OS *cough* *cough* I could see this being a distro that people can get into Linux with.
