When other distros are mentioned in the forums I some times have a closer look, usually for curiosity, but occasionally because I still have trouble with some of the Ubuntu derived graphics.
I have recently downloaded sidux, chakra and Mandriva one, burned the CD and tried to boot the live CD. In all three cases I get stopped at the login screen and cannot get any further (all claim to either not need a password or use "live". Using the same CD all three will load and boot quite happily on my wife's laptop which is a higher spec than my desktop.
Mint, Ubuntu and Parsix all work fine.
Hardware MB K8M800
KMD Sempron 2800
1 Gig DDR2
VIA K8M800/K8N800/K8N800A [S3 UniChrome Pro] X.Org 1.6.4 Res: 1280x960@60.0hz
Any guesses as to why?? (or does Helena just want to be alone?)
Thanks
Euan

Be Happy that Helena is working for you ! As I've read many posts/stories in different forums . . . your K8M800 mobo has had many ACPM/ACPI troubles, and the S3 UniChrome graphics . . some real horror stories.
