I like E17 even though i never could figure it out and there were too many glitches the few times i experimented with it. Maybe someday in the future.

I have to say it has become more stable since I had last run E17, was with OZos. This PCLinuxOS is very stable, even for a beta so I am sure it will further improve once Final Release is out. :)

It takes some getting used to but it's different, the release we are running is pretty darn stable for a beta release. This is built completely different from any other e17 based system I have ever looked at. linuxera took her own approach to making things work and it is a very interesting build. I am anxious to see the changes in the final release of this. This is very good work. :)

Finally got around to trying Beta 2. Very nice.... KDE is not workable on my computer for some reason. I have a quad core Phenom w/8 Gb RAM. Every KDE distro I try runs the CPU's hard at idle (ranging between 25-40%), enough to cause the fans to run a lot (Windows is the same way, Mint 8 64, never loads my CPU's more than 10% at idle). PCLOS Takes a bit more work than Mint to get it going, but it's definitely worth the effort.

Yes, and it was the easiest kernel swap I've ever done. Something usually breaks, but with PCLOS, select from repos, install, reboot...magic... 8) I have not figured out what's with the high CPU cycles (it happened with the Mint KDE CE too). It's actually Xorg that is doing it. I've tried all kinds of things I found online, plus a few of my homebrew potions to no avail. Apparently I'm not alone, it seems to be a 64 bit thing...

Texstar is planning to update xorg and Mint 9 will also be using the newer version too. Texstar mentioned working on a newer kernel on Twitter and newer kernels are also supposed to be available for Ubuntu 10.04 / Mint 9. You might mention the problem you are having on the PCLinuxOS forum because Texstar has been looking at all of the issues being reported and doing everything possible to get them resolved.

Was Nepomuk indexing your home directory? If so, the CPU usage should go down once it finishes.

Lots of updates recently! KDE 4.4.2, Firefox 3.6.3, Java and Gnome 2.30.0. Things are getting more and more refined and bugs are quickly disappearing. I am very impressed with the PCLinuxOS development cycle, the system has remained stable and there has been no real breakage. There has been mention of builds of the 2.6.33 kernel and a great deal of care has been taken to ensure the widest range of hardware support humanly possible. One thing that made an impression on me is how even an individuals issues are looked at and fixed, I have never seen such attention to detail!

Texstar keeps everyone informed on what is going on with the release, he uses the forum, main page and twitter, there is very good communication between the lead developer and the community. I like the "it's ready when it's ready" philosophy because what you start out with is good and you can watch it get even better. All PCLinuxOS editions are being developed at the same time and that is very ambitious for a small group of developers and the level of quality is good across the board.

The final releases of all of the editions will run and look good from some of the previews of what's to come that have been posted. I have been through different release cycles of a few different distributions but this is by far the best experience I have had. I am amazed that a small group can build all of their own packages, populate the repos, create their own artwork and have some of the highest quality standards out there. Oh, and let's not forget all of these editions are rolling releases! Very impressive!

I have some friends that I will be installing the final release on their computers. I never have to worry about anything going wrong when I install PCLinuxOS, updates just don't break it. :D I have one friend that had no previous experience with computers and I gave him a duel boot XP, Mint 5 system. My friend liked Linux and never used XP. My friend asked me about games and I gave him a PCLinuxOS CD to check out the included games, he loved it and installed it himself and has been very happy with his computer. I plan to give this guy the 2010 Live CD when it goes final because he has had no problems of any kind with 2009.2 and he had no knowledge of computers at all, it does everything he wants and he found his way around all by himself.

PCLinuxOS is a perfect fit for people that do not know how to add repos and just want new packages without having to worry about anything breaking. PCLinuxOS makes things easier on me too because I really do not have to spend much time explaining things to people, a few minutes of instruction is all they need and they seem to take to it all by themselves.

What are the release-plans from now on? Will there be another beta-release...perhaps a RC...or will they go straight to a final-release? I am burning to try PCLOS 2010 gnome when it's in a final state. I only want to do a fresh-install once in a year and the Buntu/Mint-release-cycle is simply too much for me. And the Buntu LTS-release is a kind of dissapointment because a lot of packages are not going to be updated within the 3 years.

Btw, does anyone have experience already with the 2010 gnome-release? Is it as good as the KDE-edition?
