Apple bought CUPS. Use of CUPS will thus be subjected to the approval of Apple... bad news  http://www.cups.org/articles.php?L475

CUPS was released under the GPL. If Apple messes too much with it someone will simply fork the code and e.g. create "FreeCUPS". Nothing is lost here. Let have Apple fun with it if it makes them and Steve Jobs happy.

That's the good thing about the GPL  Once GPL, always GPL. No company can 'kidnap' the code. If it were that easy Microsoft would have done so already long ago
