Windows and OSX are made by people employed to do a job. Linux is mostly done by people with a passion to make things better and scratch their own itches. If you alienate those people by forcing a system they know will make it worse, you don't have anyone left to develop it. You kill Linux, because the people whose help you need, all move onto something worth while.

There's also a paradox here, who makes the changes that nobody who knows how Linux works, wants? Nobody will knowingly make it worse.
