It depends on the quantum state of the tree, the box and the people that aren't around, but probably not.

I wouldn't know, I use Alsa for my falling tree detection.

Another way of looking at it is this - If the people at the LHC can't find the Higgs Boson then the tree has no mass, so the Linux box won't know its been fallen on, and it won't make any difference how many people are not around, pulseaudio won't make a sound.

Which, come to think of it, is probably the principle it always works on

Someone was just telling me Pulseaudio was fixed. Something else is broken now ? Ahhhh, that is the ubuntu way. Ubuntu actually doesn't mean "I am what I am, becuz of what we all are". That is just more canonical marketing nonsense. It's actually an obscure african word for BUGS, BUGSSSSSSSS, BIG BUGS. Hairy bugs, with lotsa legs. Slimy, hairy, lotsa legs BUGS.

YES, there will be a very LOUD sound, but I do not know where it come from

If there's sound at all after a tree falling on the box, I think that it's caused by the plug from the speakers touching some +5V wire during the crash. Or it's the little blob sound that comes out of speakers when you pull the plug out or cut off the current.

PulseAudio works perfectly on my laptop. Microphone, headset, speakers, all working. I am still wondering why other people are having so much problems.

By the way, do you know that there are netbooks that do not work with plain Alsa, but need PulseAudio to get the sound working?

Really?????? Ive seen a diagram of teh Linux sound stack (what a mess) and PulseAudio runs on top of Alsa, but the netbooks need it aswell as alsa to work..... what a mess

and I dont have any problems with it, apart from sometimes delays when using about 5 apps making sound at once.

Well even three is too much for me. Assuming you live on planet earth don't you have the same number of ears that I do? And the same number of brains to process what your ears receive?

Or maybe you are all women and can listen to 5 different conversations at once without missing a word from any of them?

Now I know that may be considered sexist, but it shouldn't be because it is actually a compliment, multitasking is a superb skill, and women are better at it than men, and that includes eavesdropping

Albert, u sound like the person who could manage 2 use Windows7 basic edition and not go past its limit

I have never run those 3 programs at the same time, however. I only use Banshee for playing CD's, and I only use Totem for playing DVD's. I only have one CD/DVD drive in my laptop. But I am sometimes chatting on MSN with Pidgin, playing a game, using my headset for TeamSpeak and posting on the forum (or running terminal commands) all at the same time.

Everyone complains that I'm responding late when doing all those things at the same time. With Gnome 2 I already find it confusing, and with Gnome Shell I don't manage at all to do so much things at the same time. I haven't yet tried it with Unity.
