Problema con escáner

¿Qué tal? Tengo una impresora con escáner Brother dcp 165C, logro imprimir perfectamente.
También escanear pero de una manera muy complicada, debe existir un procedimiento más simple.
Tengo linux mint cinamoon 15.
Simple scan reconoce los datos pero tira el siguiente problema:

Descargué los controladores para brother en linux de 32 bits que el sistema que tengo, para debian.

Encontré en la web el programa VueScan con el que puedo escanear, pero para hacerlo tengo que ingresar como root por terminal y me parece que debe existir un método más simple.
No lo puedo instalar.

Si no ingreso como root, desde terminal abriendo nautilus, igresando a home y desde allí a descargas donde lo tengo guardado no puedo escanear nada.
Por lo tanto, llegué a la conlusión que puedo escanear,pero hay cosas que no estoy teniendo en cuenta.
Si instalé también xsane para escanear, pero si lo abro dice que hay un error de argumento al intentar abrir el dispositivo:brother 3:bus1 ; deb1
Sin embargo, si abro la terminal y pego "sudo scanimage >prueba.png" abriendo xsane como root también puedo escanear, ja ja estoy bastante confundido.
Hasta ahora gracias a la comunidad he aprendido y solucionado los "problemas" con los que me he encontrado por mi falta de conocimiento.
Espero alguna ayuda al respecto. Muchas gracias. Y sigo encantado con mint.

Yo tengo la brother dcp130c y nada mas instalar los drivers del scanner me da el mismo error. Una solución es escanerar con permisos de root, por ejemplo con sudo xsane ( programas para escanear que nativos de linux que conozco: simplescan, xsane, gscan2pdf, ocrfeeder ).

Gracias por la información, según parece tengo todos los controladores de Brother al día para el modelo de escáner porque puedo escanear.

El problema es que solo lo puedo hacer con un programa que bajé que se llama VueScan,el cual puedo abrir únicamente como Root.
Hago clic derecho, y me di cuenta que me da la opción.

Sin embargo, preferiria usar Simple Scan.

VueScan es un programa que tiene la opción de pago, y no me gusta por ese motivo. Prefiero el softoware totalmente libre.

Manda muchas ventanas antes de escanear.

No me doy cuenta proque no puedo usar Simple Scan, intuyo que debe ser algún problema de configuración.

1-Instala el paquete simple-scan
2-Prueba a abrir el programa ejecutando en la terminal sudo simple-scan ( o con alt+f2 y luego gksu simple-scan ).
A mi asi me funcionó nada mas instalar los drivers, sin necesidad de modificar nada mas.
3-Si así te funciona, prueba a modificar según te diga la página de brother que te indique ( http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/instruction_scn1c.html ), para poder usar simple-scan sin permisos de root, como usuario.
3a. Desde http://www.brother.com/cgi-bin/agreement/agreement.cgi?dlfile=http://www.brother.com/pub/bsc/linux/dlf/brother-udev-rule-type1-1.0.0-1.all.deb&lang=English_lpr bajate el archivo: brother-udev-rule-type1-1.0.0-1.all.deb, ver.1.0.0-1, 2KB ( se abre una página en la que hay un botón de Aceptar, le das a él y se te bajara el archivo .deb )
3b. Ejecuta en la terminal, abierta desde la carpeta en la que se haya bajado el paquete anterior, el comando: sudo dpkg -i brother-udev-rule-type1-1.0.0-1.all.deb



Que yo sepa VueScan es para windows.

La primera parte funcionó pero solamente lo puedo abrir como root.

Acepté e instalé

Abrí la terminal y agregué :dpkg -i brother-udev-rule-type1-1.0.0-1.all.deb

Pero luego aparce este error:

"# dpkg -i brother-udev-rule-type1-1.0.0-1.all.deb
dpkg: error al procesar brother-udev-rule-type1-1.0.0-1.all.deb (--install):
no se puede acceder al archivo: No such file or directory
Se encontraron errores al procesar:
brother-udev-rule-type1-1.0.0-1.all.deb"

Tienes que hacerlo con permisos de root: sudo dpkg -i brother-udev-rule-type1-1.0.0-1.all.deb
y desde la terminal abierta en la carpeta en donde se haya bajado el archivo brother-udev-rule-type1-1.0.0-1.all.deb


Comprobado que funciona, ya que lo he instalado siguiendo esas instrucciones en Mint 15 Cinnamon 32 bits
