Upgrade 10 to 11, menu link to home broken [solved]

Postby fewter on Fri Jul 01, 2011 3:50 am

I upgraded Mint main edition from version 10 to 11 by doing a fresh install. Everything is fine except that the Mint Menu link to 'Home Folder' no longer works. Simply nothing happens when I click the link. The link to 'Computer' works. The link to home in Nautilus works. I had created bookmarks to directories under home in my old system. These work in Nautilus but not in Mint Menu 'Places'. I have tried creating a new entry in Mint Menu > Preferences > Places but that doesn't work either.

I suspect the problem is related to the fact that under my old system /home was a directory in the root partition. When I reinstalled I created a separate home partition and restored my data to that.

I can't find anything on Google. Any suggestions gratefully received!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Solved! Or at least there is a work-round that makes it unimportant.
This problem was clearly very closely related to Socob's problem: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=76287
There is some bug or inconsistency in the way Mint Menu handles launchers which was triggered when I upgraded. His way round the problem was to delete the entries in ~/.local/share/applications (I just renamed the directory) and it works.
I am very grateful to Socob.

What a coincidence that we were both getting this issue at the same time. Anyway, I'm very glad that you could use what I've discovered.
