Can't install mint12 on laptop!?

Postby vp33 on Thu May 17, 2012 3:26 am

Hello, I have some experience installing various distros on my desktop and netbook. However, I tried to install mint12 on my new Samsung 305v5a-a09 laptop and was not sucessful. I've tried to different ways, via live USB and by a cd w/ the .iso file. I've tried to changed  the boot order as well. Nothing seems to be working?! The computer continues to load windows.

I would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you.

Well, I can't find that model online so not much help as I can't see its manual. I won't rant about how bad I think Samsung's end-user support is :| Anyway, you will have to configure this in your BIOS. Especially with the .iso the computer should just boot from the CD or DVD if you changed the boot order in the BIOS. If it doesn't, try the CD or DVD on another computer. It works there? Then you need to go back into the BIOS as something is likely not set correctly yet for the boot order (usually boot order can be configured in two places, one for hard disk order and one for other devices order, check both). Alternatively, you may first install a Windows boot manager, such as EasyBCD (it costs a lot of money though): http://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/ That will allow you to select to boot from something else before booting Windows from your hard disk.
