Internet became suddenly slow when Mint was installed

Postby GenericUser on Thu Apr 26, 2012 9:33 pm

So I had been running a (terribly out of date) version of Debian far too long on my laptop and so I decided to check out Mint and installed Linux Mint 12. On wireless my old Debian install could get about 400-500 Kb/sec, however once I installed Mint it dropped to 100 Kb/Sec across every site (and every browser and even through things such as apt-get) with no hardware changes and no other changes (such as distance from the router). The relevant output from lsusb is "Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0bda:8197 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187B Wireless Adapter" Anyone know why installing Mint made my internet go from decent to unusable?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Don't know why you might be having a problem but if it was working fine w/ Debian then you might want to look at LMDE.
