KDE from Repository

Postby bvpainter on Sun Apr 29, 2012 5:31 am

I am running Mint 12 with Mate or Cinnamon as my windows managers. Can I install KDE from the repositories, and if so will it be the same as a fresh install of Mint KDE.

Can I upgrade to KDE 4.8.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

You can add KDE, either package kde-full which gives you a lot of default KDE applications, or just kde-standard package which is smaller in size.

Will it give you the same experience as a clean install of Linux Mint KDE? Not sure, probably you will have to do some configuring to get it exactly the same, but it will be KDE.

It should be pretty much the same however you will get update's for both environments that can be a little annoying if you have a slower connection or a limited download amount.

You wont have the same icons and grapics as KDE mint, but you could change that if you wanted. Or change them to something all together diffrent. Its a sizeable download, but unless you really really need that extra ~1gb its much easier then re installing to the KDE version
