Must admit i don't know what a DNS is so an idiot proof solution is needed

Synaptic Package Manager and MintUpdate not working

Total newbie here and i'm connected via wifi and whenever i try to use SPM or Mintupdate it just times out.
I'm using Daryna, my ISP is Tiscali (i know, i know).

Hmm. Bizarrely it seems to be working now.... i did try a suggestion i'd found elsewhere before i asked this question and it didn't seem to work, maybe the old reboot did the trick.
