[Solved] Running MintUpdate 1.7

Postby gtc on Mon Mar 17, 2008 3:48 pm

--I found my own answer after taking another whack at the forums. Seems like I needed the following installed:

mintupdate-gnome_1.0_i386.deb

I know have a menu item and can launch mintUpdate with problems.

Cheers!--

Hello. A happy Celena user here since October. MintUpdate seems like a useful utility. Forum posts cited early versions as compatible with Celena. So I downloaded the version 1.7 .deb from http://www.linuxmint.com/repository/daryna/, and installed. No problems with install, but no launch icon appears under Administration. Next I opened a terminal window and tried:

sudo python /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintUpdate/mintUpdate.py

That saves 964 rules, but MintUpdate utility doesn't launch. So what do I have to do to get MintUpdate to run?

Much appreciated.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I think you should use celena - but there is no mintUpdate
You are right that (at least early versions of) mintUpdate is OK with Celena
It should be added to the autostarting applications in "sessions"
like so
Code: Select all
/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintUpdate/mintUpdate

This is the command to start it - not the one you tried

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Thanks much for the reply and advice.

I checked in Sessions and found mintUpdate is already listed there and checked as active. The command listed under Edit is:

/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintUpdate/mintUpdate.py

Regardless, I can find no way to launch the graphical mintUpdate interface. It simply is not listed as an option in any of the menu or panel application lists. When I run:

/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintUpdate/mintUpdate

as you suggested in Terminal, I get a "command not found" error message.

If I try and run the string ending in mintUpdate.py, I get an error window telling me mintUpdate is already running.

It just may be that mintUpdate 1.7 isn't compatible with Celena.
