Essential Packages

Post by bgast1 »

I really didn't know how to title this thread. I now have Linux Mint installed and I think I like it a lot. I have Compiz working. Would someone kindly provide me with a list of what they think are essential packages to install.

Technically all the essential packages are installed by default, anything else is supplementary and depends on what specifically you want to do with your computer. So what is your computer's function?

Mostly listening to music, watching DVD's. Gaming, but I have Windows for that, although I would really like to play my games through Linux. Favorite games are Command & Conquer Decades, Command & Conquer Tiberium Wars, Civilization III & IV and the expansion packs. An occasional FPS.

I suppose I could try the games through Wine or Cedega, or a virtual box, even though I have never tried it before.

I also need to learn to sync my iPod. I have no idea what to use or how to do it.
