Live CD from Linux Forum won't boot solved

Postby tomk@hawks on Mon Apr 14, 2008 7:58 am

Hi, I am a total newbie, decided on Linux Mint because it looked good in the magazine.
Using the DVD from the mag, the boot process starts but seems to hang at a Busybox command line. In particular, it stops with the line (initramfs) on the screen. There is a cursor blinking but nothing happens. Where to from here?

My box is Intel Pentium 4 2.00GHz, NVidia graphics card (GeForce 4 MX?). It has Windows XP with 728MB RAM.

Thanks,

Want to get started but first hurdle came really quickly,

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I'm almost out of time so very short answer follows
Try "Safe graphics mode" and if that does not help the wiki may help you

I have a nvidia Gf4mx and it works

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Thanks Husse. I got things working in the end and I am really enjoying LInuxmint. It has been a good introduction to Linux. I used basic graphic options to get things started and then used "Envy" to install the nvidia driver. All worked well. Thanks for your reply anyway.
