desktop icons

I am not able to get my icons to show on my desktop. I configured via the configuration wizard to show desktop icons yet they don't show.

What icons do you want to have on your desktop?

icons for my mounted drives and maybe others. I have been able to place a text file on the desktop but that is all.

Run mintDesktop and select mounted drives. If you only have local filesystems mounted it will not show up on the desktop (I.E. root partition or home etc).

It's a GUI, just search in the filter box in the menu 'desktop' and you'll see the menu entry.

Can't find menu 'Desktop' or a search filter box on the desktop or in the right click menu or in the configure Desktop.

This is very well explained in the Linux Mint user guide : http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/4.0/LinuxMint-4.0-User-Guide_v1.pdf
You can find mintDesktop in menu>preference>mintDesktop
In libro veritas

After checking out the user manual for the 3rd time which doesn't help me much since it is for Gnome and I use KDE, I found reference to "mintDesktop" and see it is a function available in Gnome. Thank you for your time.

You should always specify which edition of Linux Mint you use :!:
When you don't mention it, everybody assumes you use the main edition, thus Gnome.

To set the icons shown on the Desktop in KDE :
menu > system parameters (kcontrol)
then
desktop > behavior
and click on the 'peripheral icons' tab.
(not sure about the names since my system is in french).

cheers

You are quite correct and I thought I had done that. Thanks Ed.
Note I have added the version I am using to my signature.
