Buffer i/o error on device fd0 logical block 0 solved

Hi, how can I reset the mount preferences? Some days ago I use the Mount Manager to set the cdroms to automount cause I couldn't see them, and since that when I boot appears a message like this:

Buffer i/o error on device fd0 logical block 0
Mounting local filesystems... mount: no medium found
... finally appears a message saying that the device will be mounted in read only mode.

this lasts 7 minutes or so, for each of the cdrom drives ( I have three).

I don't know how to fix this without reinstalling. I tried deleting the mount points from the Mount Manager but all remains the same. I'm completelly newie.

And the error has something to do with the floppy....

Sorry I'm refering to this: Control Center/ System Administration/ Disk & Filesystems
This pc has no floppy.
All was fine before the configuration changes in the mount options.

Ok first off do yourself a favor and create a separate home partition

This was caused when I saw you only had one ext3 partition
And yes - your fstab is screwed up
The two last lines in fstab

/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,atime,noauto,rw,dev,exec,suid 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 auto users,atime,auto,rw,dev,exec,suid 0 0

These two lines work much better although the first line above should work ...

So edit fstab accordingly

You should use gksudo (gnome) or kdesu (KDE) for GUI apps

Thanks a lot Husse. Now boots like new. But I don't understand the changes you made at that lines mean. Can you explain it to me please?

You had

/dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 auto users,atime,auto,rw,dev,exec,suid 0 0

and I suggested

/dev/hdc /media/cdrom1 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec 0 0

fd is the floppy there could be more than one but now hardly even one so fd0 is the existing floppy
The rest is different options when it's mounted and a CD/DVD should have iso9660 which is the filesystem, user and exec so anyone using it will have full control and noaouto so that it's not mounted without a disk in the device and the two zeros to indicate it's not to be checked by fsck
The first line had a few to many options....
Oh and today hard disks are sdx while CD/DVD are hdx
