Username and password issues in XFCE

I just installed Wicd to handle my networking instead of network-manager, and under the next reboot the machine wants my username and password. I know what they are but they are not being accepted. I normally have auto-login; so it came as a surprise that it was asking me to login at all. Is there a way to reset the username and password without logging in? Or is there a way to login as a guest and sudo the changes?

First off - it's only a super user that can use sudo - normally only the first user on the system
From your post I understand that it is the keyring that wants password and it may be a bit tricky to autologin - but the solution is found here
