Mint/Ubuntu on same drive

I have looked at the Ubuntu 12.10 and decided that it might be time to find another distro. My question is can I run Mint on the same share as my Ubuntu or do I need to partition it to its own space?

Thanks.

Each system requires it's own partition for /
They can share a partition for /home (but neither Ubuntu or Mint default to a separate /home) (so you would have to have created one in the first place). But sharing /home and having the same username login on both is asking for trouble IMO.

I keep all my Linux mutliboot on their dedicated partitions

I thought so but was not sure. Time to partition and give it a shot. Thanks.

Remember you only have 4 Primary partitions
One you have 3 you should create a Extended partition in all the remaining free space (it's counted as a Primary)
Then you can create as many logical partitions inside the extended space as you like
