Losing the HDMI sound on the TV

We're running Mint 13 Maya on a Zotac ZBox Nano AD12 connected to a TV by HDMI cable. It works unless you turn the TV off or switch source on the TV while the computer is running. When you turn the TV back on or flick back to HMDI connection as a source, there is no sound. A reboot sorts it out. Any thoughts?
