Lenovo B540 and mint13 or 14

I bought a new all n one lenovo b540 today and tried to load mate on it. it worked but the screen started dimming after 5 mins then within 10 min, the screen would go dark and i would have to SHUT DOWN, not reboot, the whole system and boot up again. Its nice and bright then the same. So i logged into windows 8 and the same thing happens. Took it back and got another, it didnt do that but when i tried to download 13 again, i got a black screen with a lot of scirpts that look like something in the terminal. so i just stopped the install. any suggestions?

Do you wanna install Mint 13 Maya or Mint 14 Nadia?
I know they just came out with "14.1" that basically included a few updates that they needed, so I would get a fresh download of that .iso (make sure to check whether you need 32bit or 64bit) and try again.
Either burn it to a CD or a USB and do the "Live" option. That way you can test it out before you actually install it along side of Win8
