When I try to minimize Pidgin or Xchat to the tray they don't show up as tray icons as they should. Why?

So I typed gnome-power-manager into my terminal and got this:
(gnome-power-manager:1991): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.24.1/gobject/gsignal.c:2273: signal `proxy-status' is invalid for instance `0x9503c70'

- Power Manager is already running in this session.

gnome-power-manager controls the battery indicator, right?
