Toshiba NB205 long boot time

Post by Trio3b »

LM 13 xfce on Toshiba NB205 2gb RAM

Boot time is very long. Any services I can disable to reduce boot. ( about 2 min)?

Thanks

2 min for xfce sure is weird, post your dmesg result here (or your syslog)

LM 13 xfce installed via unetbootin on SD card on this netbook Toshiba NB205 2gb RAM. I thought that was a long time too. Otherwise all seems ok although this is a new install.

dmesg returns:

That was really weird you know.. the number between [] is the time (second) I don't know whats the problem or how to solved it (so we'll just have to wait for others to answer), but how about trying some live CD/USB and look at the dmesg again? if the live system boot with normal time, I think reinstalling will be the best option..

Re: Toshiba NB205 long boot time

Sorry forgot to mention this is a dual boot on this 160gb HDD with WinXP, and selected "install alongside WinXP" during install. defragged and ran chkdsk on WinXP before install.

OK, noticed gparted available in live mode but after install not available. So to check why hanging at mounting sda5 as shown by previous dmesg, I ran LM13 live (via unetbootin) again and saw that installer only created one large partition next to Winxp and then swap and then recovery partition. Sorry no screenshots, but from beginning of disk:

0-60gb ntfs Winxp
60-120gb ext4 sda5
120-124gb swap
124-150 fat32 recovery

So reinstalled this time selecting custom partitioning and this time used empty space to create the normal ( for me) partition scheme:
sda5 - /
swap
sda7 /home

gparted image :

-> http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k54 ... 41272d.png

rebooted and still have long boot . dmesg returns:
1.907419] r8169 0000:04:00.0: eth0: RTL8102e at 0xf801e000, 00:23:5a:fb:2c:31, XID 04c00000 IRQ 45

[ 196.333201] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
[ 196.400142] udevd[284]: starting version 175

It appears there is some problem mounting sda5 with root partition. Seems I have partition problems.

/etc/fstab shows:
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a
# device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices
# that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc nodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0
# / was on /dev/sda5 during installation
UUID=225b8565-7f7f-41cd-b8ff-0a6f729e352c / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1
# /home was on /dev/sda7 during installation
UUID=98799358-93c6-4328-a0de-dc86997c8c79 /home ext4 defaults 0 2
# swap was on /dev/sda6 during installation
UUID=711a88e4-07d7-4ea9-a7f1-388c2fa27695 none swap sw 0 0

I think there might be a problem with primary/logical/extended partitions and reading sda5. Sorry, new to gparted. Also read something about /var/lib/readahead/pack but not sure if this is the problem.

Any help appreciated

bump? Any ideas about the partition scheme causing long boot time.

Thanks
