How do you install Firefox 3 Beta 5?

I wanted to try the Beta 5 version of FF 3 but don't know how to install it. I've downloaded the firefox-3.0b5.tar.bz2 and can extract it. The readme file only has a link back to the installer site. :(

There must be a "standard" set of commands to configure, make, and install, but I'm not experienced enough to know them by heart.

Thanks

Well if you just want to try it you can run it without installing. Unpack it and there is a file called firefox. Run that. (If you can't then change its permissions to allow it to be executed and run in terminal)

Thanks, but I've been using it in Windows and think it's pretty stable, and much faster than FF2. So I'd like to install it. :?

For what its worth, I found it in the package manager. I wanted to try it out too. The only part that took me a minute was trying to figure out how to make a shortcut on my desktop for it, but that was simple enough. All my surfing history transfered over, but not my bookmarks, I don't really care about that because I only use it occasionally when I know where I'm going to be surfing to. If I have anything to search for I use the mint firefox so that mint gets the credit/money. If you wait a few weeks I'm pretty sure the new version of mint will have it built in, and maybe the mint version of ff3 will be available. Thats what I'm hoping for anyway.

Always always always check synaptic before you try faffing about with downloading software from a website. As in this case more often than not the software is already available to you in Synaptic.

In case no one else noticed, the version in Synaptic Package Manager is actually Beta 4, not Beta 5. I don't know what's different between the two, but honestly Beta 4 is good enough for me until Elyssa gets here. Also I had no issues with my bookmarks. The install automatically brought them over for me. It did tell me that a couple of my plugins/extensions were not compatible with the new version, and it skipped them, but even most of them made it.

I am pretty sure you are right about it being beta 4. I am not on my computer right now. I don't really know how big a deal it is to the OP, but I think I remeber it being beta 4. So far it works well for me, I haven't had any problems with it.
