network connections fail because of my adapter

My problem is i have a dual boot computer, dell dimension 3000, which will connect to the internet only with 'wicd' with any consistancy at all. Network manager seems to have a lot of problems maintaining or even connecting at all. Wicd almost never fails and sometimes even then i can find why and correct it.

I'm using a linksys wireless G usb adapter for lack of an internal adapter.

When i go to the windows xp side of the computer I rarely get connected to the internet at all but sometimes it does. It seems to be a password problem but i cannot seem to fix it either.

My question is , if there are no other answers, can I use wicd on the windows side. Is it compatible with windows or do i have to do something else?
