cannot print - r61 thinkpad

OK - I never tried to get printers to work in my last linux experience. I had to print yesterday - and could not could not get a pixma IP1800 canon printer to print. no choice to add printer or driver. tried everything. Any clues?

printer works great with my macbook pro and my old 12" powerbook. not this new thinkpad and daryna.

p.s. their site seems to not have any linux drivers for that particular model - does that mean it is not possible? or is there a way to get this to print?

The Australian canon site has some drivers for your printer model http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=374898

You'll need Alien to convert the rpm file to a deb file.

I did something similar to set up my Canon IP3300, maybe you can modify the guide (post #7) here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=374898
The only difference that I can tell is that there is a specific and common driver for my printer whereas I think there's only the common driver you can use (as so far as I've seen). It might work.

Good luck man, hopefully someone comes along with some better advice if that doesn't work.
