For simplicity and the fact that some older machines that can run Mint 10+ don't have DVD drives, is it possible to create an install CD that installs the OS basics, then (via scripts?) loads up the rest via apt-get or synaptic after the user chooses what they want from the LM DVD package-set? (i.e.: The installer would allow the user to select MATE, Cinnamon, Gnome3, Unity, Fluxbox, LXDE, etc.) Whilst MATE seems to be getting better and better (my issue with MATE going 50% gray between login and wallpaper load has vanished; perhaps the latest version has stomped that pest?) others might need something lightweight or Mint would not work well.

With broadband so common nowadays, this seems to be a valid question to raise, even if doing such an install would take a fair amount of time and potentially be quite interesting... in the Chinese sense.

In theory yes.

1- Install linuxmint in a PC/laptop and update (in terminal: sudo apt-get update).

2- Install remastersys.

3- Delete some packages (libreoffice, gimp, transmission, pidgin, thunderbird, etc),until you get a file of less than 650 MB.

4- Using remastersys ( hope it works in Nadia) you can create a iso image to fit on a CD.

5- When you are running remastersys it will warn the image size, if greater than 700 MB, return to step 1 and remove more packages to fit on a CD.

6- Done.
