I do hope this posting is not in the wrong place , please correct me if I an wrong!
problem....
Linux mint 14 32 bit(mate) on acer inspire t630 , 230 GB sata hdd (Linux mint only installed ) , 80gb ide drive formatted to NTFS , 1.5 gb ram , nvidia graphics , 100mb/network , small home network , using adsl router as dhcp (10mb/s)

Linux mint 14 , all updates applied and have "bleach bit" done and it runs like a dream .
have problem with file tranfer using caja.
On linux box , find file on win 7 box , 5.4gb, 2140 files , copy file to linux mint box
1/ to ntfs drive , caja stalls at about 2.4 gb.
2/ to sata drive , caja stalls at about 1.2gb

1 single iso file 6.4 gb transfers to either drive @8.4 mb/s , no problem
using the win7 box file transfers from either drive on the linux mint box work fine (8.4.mb/s)

I previously asked and was helped with changing swapiness settings , have tried 20, 10 , 5 ,1, and 0 , all leave a result about the same as mentioned above .
I have spent a couple of hours searching the forums and have not found a simlilar problem , or tho the answer may be there. Can some one please suggest
how to begin to solve this issue , or point me at posting that may help ,
thanks in advance

It sounds to me as if caja is choking on the number of files you are attempting to drag and drop. Have you tried moving only part of the folders instead of the entire library at once?

I am having the same problem when pulling files from my XP laptop.

I really shouldn't matter how many files or how large they are. I just finished having to upgrade from Ubunut 10.10, and I could transfer entire hard drives worth of data at once with no problem.

If this can't do the same as the older version of the OS which this is based on, then this would constitute a bug in the system! A very annoying bug that is currently having me consider my choice of OS.

I think it isn't a bug in the OS, but it may be a bug in caja. You can always install Nautilus, Thunar, PCManFM, or your file manager of choice.

Ok, I have tried as many things as I could find , alas Caja, on my installation, does not seem to like multiple large file transfers , no matter what i tried
I have taken the following as a good solution
On the windows 7 box , set up full windows FTP server ( takes a bit of doing ) excellent on line tutorials found
on the Linux mint 14 ( mate ) box using Filezilla

very simple to use , specially when one is new to Linux

my music folder , now is 3.1GB and 754 files

FileZilla , down loaded the entire folder ( from the win7 box to the linux mint box) in 4 minutes 30 seconds , and no errors

that is good enough for me.

Would be keen to hear if any one has any other suggestions
As a newbie I do like using a Gui rather than terminal
thank you .
