Why is NVidia drivers so outdated

Post by junior-s »

I`m wondering why Nvidia drivers are on 304.51 version, when there is 313.x?
Steam is now on Linux, and the experimental beta driver (from repositories) is 310.14, which works flawlessly.

Problem is, I CAN do a manual driver install but there`s an openGL error that drives anyone crazy. So, how to do a install of the driver without having any major problems? When is Mint going to release a newer driver version?

Mint follows the stable releases of nvidia and offers experimental drivers for those more daring.
If you want 313.x, take a look here: http://www.upubuntu.com/2012/12/install ... ta-in.html
The use of ppa's is ill-advised for mint, IIRC, so use that method at your own risk.

The drivers are from Ubuntu, so you you would have to take it up with their developers if you think they are releasing them too slow (:

What error is that?

xegders used to install the latest, but somehow they got back to 304.

The error is sort of like " the opengl version is not compatible with your card", but this only happens on Ubuntu based Linux. On openSUSE I have no problem at all with any driver release. The only problem is Steam`s EULA, so they are not yet releasing their client on .rpm

BTW how can I install the experimental? Is there a repository?
