My procedure is to open synaptic package manager, click refresh, and then close it. After that, I go down to the update manager icon on the task bar and right click it and hit refresh. After all of that, it will finally tell me if I have any available updates.
Every now and then, it's very rare, the update manager will turn blue on it's own without me opening synaptic and forcing the issue.
Otherwise, I have to enter the password for synaptic and refresh it and go through that whole routine to make it acknowledge that updates are available. Then, when the update manager icon turns blue, indicating updates, I click on it and have to enter my password again to actually be able to install the updates.
This seems kind of convoluted and a lot of hoops to jump through to get updates. Is this pretty much normal for all of you or is something a little off on my end? I'm the only user of the computer and, as far as I know, have admin. privileges.
