Ubuntu One on LMDE

A year and a half ago, some sharp and experienced folks created workarounds for getting Ubuntu One to run on LMDE. This thread, for instance, shows the results of their work: viewtopic.php?f=199&t=77791

However, this solution no longer works, and I'm curious if anyone has a more current or more enduring solution. I'm very much enjoying LMDE, but I have a certain investment in Ubuntu One, alas.

I'd be glad of any help available.

How far have you gotten so far? Or rather, what have you tried?
Whilst not recommended for mint, since it can break your system, adding the quantal or precise repo (or maya/nadia) should present you with ubuntuone-client.
If it does show up but won't install due to mismatched file versions you can use aptitude and allow it to up/downgrade as necessary, but that's the kind of stuff that really does pose a threat of breaking your system.
That being said, I don't think there's a "clean" way to do this.

Installing ubuntu packages in vanilla debian is a bad idea.
Installing ubuntu packages in different debian derived distro is a very bad idea.

I would suggest going pure Debian if you want it this bad. LMDE updates will most likely to kill it every time. You are going to have to rely on linux mint devs to help because debian users will never care:

@bb333: Yes, I'm not adverse to making a silk purse out of a sow's ear if it doesn't take more time and resources than just making a silk purse in the first place would. So perhaps it's not a good idea. As for the LMDE updates killing it, they've already killed my broadcom 43xx fix once, so I'm starting to see how this can be a problem.

This seems deceptively human-readable: I'm not connected to the Ubuntu One network, I'm not a user in their network, I'm in some kind of queue, but it's idle, because I'm from the wrong side of the tracks and have been ostracized. Perhaps it is not meant to be.

I would suggest going pure Debian if you want it this bad. LMDE updates will most likely to kill it every time.

ubuntu changes script = doesn't work
ubuntu changes client packages = doesn't work
lmde changes packages = doesn't work
debian changes packages = doesn't work

Stick with ubuntu or an ubuntu derived distro if you want that client sync option.

Looks to be much easier to do this (extremely bad idea just to install ubuntu packages like show but it seems to work):

Again, updates are going to most likely break things. Stick with ubuntu or ubuntu derived distros for this, IMHO.
