What is the password for live session mint 14?

I need to su, or sudo su so that I can check a hdd for bad sectors.

mint@mint ~ $ smartctl -a /dev/sda
smartctl 5.43 2012-06-30 r3573 [x86_64-linux-3.5.0-17-generic] (local build)

Smartctl open device: /dev/sda failed: Permission denied
mint@mint ~ $

You don't need a password to run sudo from the live session. What you do need to do, of course, is type the command with sudo if you want to use sudo... So instead run:
Code: Select all
sudo smartctl -a /dev/sda
