I am running LMDE, installed the first week of January. I have not received an update yet.

I am running Ubuntu and Mint Ubuntu-based distros, which all have had updates including new Kernels since.

Is this right???

I followed the instructions and am returning pretty much the same things as in the posts...

Is it not true that LMDE receives more regular updates than Ubuntu-based installs?

LMDE tends to get updates in the form of update packs. It's updated far less often than Ubuntu-based distros.

I see, I thought that LMDE got more updates than Ubuntu.. Anyways, since I'm not getting errors, I assume its working as should.

exactly what edition of lmde you installed?
from where you downloaded the iso?

I downloaded the ISO from http://www.linuxmint.com/download_lmde.php and created a bootable USB early January this year.

I'll head back to my work machine to check the exact version info if you need it

zerozero,

Looking at the output, the kernel it is showing, he installed UP6 and should be up to date imho.

guyfromfl,

As said before, LMDE doesn't recieve updates just like that. It's updated with UP's (Update Packs) that contain updates of packages that are tested thoroughly to asure stability of the system. LMDE is also a cyclic- or semi-rolling distro, not a full rolling release distro that recieves daily or weekly updates.

Months can go by before a new UP is released.

The latest UP was released in December (UP6) and contained over 1200 updates, so it's right no further updates came in after that. When UP7 is ready and will show up, we will recieve the next load of updates. That's how LMDE works.

P.S.: Check the update manager to confirm UP6 is installed under Update Pack info

yep, Mr. B is right

the default kernel that comes with the iso you downloaded is 3.2.0-2, you only get 0-4 after update to UP6 that is the latest update-pack available atm;
this means that you installed and immediately after you had a huge update (over 1000 pkgs) since then there has been no updates

maybe the FAQ can help a bit http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=197&t=91405

Ok, according to the LMDE page on linuxmint.com:
You don't need to ever re-install the system. New versions of software and updates are continuously brought to you.
I was under the impression that it would update as often or more than the Ubuntu-style version..

As long as its running as its supposed to, I am happy and we can close this topic.

Thank you everybody.
