"failed to start the x server"

Postby dux on Wed Feb 13, 2013 5:00 pm

Hello

I can't install xfce 14. Unfortunately there are some x server issues. I searched some solutions but still can't resolve it.
I tried these advices: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=105156

Steps
1. Swap to a new shell
2. sudo Xorg -configure
I encounter the first problem: Number of created screens does not match number of detected device. I just only use my netbooks screen :?

3. sudp cp /home/mint/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
4.startx
Fatal server error: no screen found (EE)

Please bear with me I'm a bloody rookie.

ps. i have a Intel Graphics Media Accelrator 3650

best regards

Seriously speaking , I encountered the same problem while trying to install switchable graphics on my computer . AFAIK, there is no working solution yet and I had to reinstall.
But you can try these steps:

Use a mint live CD/USB and backup all essential files first !!!

1. Delete the Xorg.conf file using the rm command

2. Restart X.
