Really slow startup

Hey guys!
This is my first time creating a topic in the forum.. but I've been reading it a lot, and you guys are really helpful! I hope you can help me too :)

I recently installed Mint 14 (Cinnamon) and it's just awesome! There's just a slight step back:

I have three hard drives (2x500GB + 1x320GB). The 320GB is where Windows is installed.. but I just use it for Itunes. Linux is my main OS!
One of the 500GB is where Linux is installed and the other is for storage.

In this storage hard drive there's also my Desktop! I added an entry to fstab so it auto-mounts on startup -> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36916285/Screen ... 5%3A56.png. I also changed the Desktop path in /home/username/.config/user-dirs.dirs.
It automounts at startup, but I get a 20s blank screen after I introduce my username and password in the login window. Only then the desktop shows up!

My system has really good specs, so there's no reason that I can think of, that justifies this slow startup.

Please help me.. this is really annoying!

Have you tried using a different desktop environment? Also, what are your graphics card and its driver?

As for iTunes, you might consider implementing something like this: http://freshtutorial.com/install-itunes-ubuntu-linux/
Having Windows purely for iTunes seems like overkill to me :P

Thanks for the reply! :)

I have not tried a different DE. Will it affect anything important if I try Mate, for example?
My graphic's card is an Nvidia Geforce GTX 465 and the driver version is 304.43. Also, My monitor is 120Hz.. don't know if that could be an issue.

I already tried installing Itunes on Linux using wine, but it didn't work out so well.. =/ Maybe I'll give it a shot with playonlinux! :)

Off topic: I have a portable version of a software for Windows (.exe file). Is Wine/playonlinux capable of running it?

EDIT: Ok, so I installed Mate but the result is exactly the same! I also tried Gnome and it still displays a blank screen for a long time.. :(

EDIT2: Here is a bootchart log from just moments ago -> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36916285/joao-M ... 0222-3.png. Perhaps it can be useful to analyze and figure out why my system is taking so long.. :)

I'm afraid you'll have to wait for someone more experienced to diagnose the bootup then. The log should help though.
The fact that it took MATE just as long also helps rule out a couple of things.

As for the portable exe, it depends on the program. If it's a popular or commercial program you can check its compatibility here: http://appdb.winehq.org/
