Depends on your phone. There is no single answer to it. Some phones are developed by sane people, and just mount as a USB storage device (like an external hard disk). An icon should appear on your desktop, or you should be asked what you want to do, after you plug in the phone. Some phones are developed by insane people, and will only exchange files if you use the manufacturer's own application. Which is usually Windows only.

model with your phone's brand and model will turn up something.
