problem when connecting mobile phone to linux mint 14

when i connect my android mobile it opens as media player and i can just browse files. i cannot cut/copy/paste from into device. but when i connect in windows i can use it as a mounted memory card. please any one help me i cannot backup my files to pc if this continues..
