Change size of cursor

The other day I went thru a lot of the Mint Mate windows/functions (trying to educate myself) and stepped on a window where I was able to increase the size of the cursor. I changed the theme and now I am back at the itty bitty cursor that I have a hard time seeing. Now I don't remember where that cursor editing function was. At my age (75), memory is not that good any more. Can someone please remind me where that cursor change option is hiding.

Hi,

Do you mean the mouse pointer?

Go to Control Center > Appearance > Appearance Preferences
Click on your theme > click Customize > Pointer
Click on a Pointer (other than Default Pointer)
At the bottom of the box the "Size" option then becomes available to resize your pointer.

Thank you very much. That was it. I would have never found my way back there. All is good now - until I hit the next bump, LOL.

I have Linux Mint 17 MATE.

That procedure doesn't work for me. :?

My issue is that the "I" beam (insertion point) indicator is too wide.
I find it very difficult to place the insertion point where I want it to go.

Can anyone recommend any cursor theme packs that might solve this issue? :)

Additional
I found a cursor theme that seems like it might solve my issue. :)

Also in the package manager there's "comixcursors" which allow various sizes for use in Mint.

Thanks Spearmint2. :)
I'll check that out.

The theme I linked to is apparently based on XP.
The Insertion point cursor is very thin (just what I wanted).

Once I find out how to slow the mouse pointer speed down (all options set to "slow" is still too fast) then all of my mouse niggles will be over.

In LM17 mate, I found that it was a bit "hit and miss" to change the pointer size like this (unlike previously in the posts above).

Most times I tried it in LM17, the Size option slider would still be "inactive" and not available to change.

I did "fluke" it a couple of times by clicking back and forth between "Custom" and other themes in the Appearance Preferences window, closing and reopening
the Appearance Preferences window and trying it again.
Then I could sometimes change the pointer size by dragging the slider for DMZ-White or DMZ-Black or the Default pointer.
How, exactly it did work for those couple of times, I can't explain :? But, then tried it again ... and it wouldn't do it :x

There is another way to change the cursor size in LM17 mate -

Install dconf-tools from Software Manager
Open dconf-editor from Menu
In the left-pane, click arrows next to org > mate > desktop > peripherals
Click on mouse
In right-pane, change the number value on the cursor-size line from 18.
press enter

OR to do the same thing via command line -
open a terminal, and enter (this is just an example - adjust the number at the end higher or lower to suit):

Code: Select all

gsettings set org.mate.peripherals-mouse cursor-size 48
press enter

Also, I tried the Classic-White cursor theme you linked to.

It worked ok, but I could not change the size of it no matter what method I tried.

Hi
Thanks for that info, caribriz.

I did notice that size slider became active, once, but when I tried to adjust it, the entire window just vanished! :?

My pointer "size" issue was only related to the thickness of the Insertion point indicator.
I have no problems with the default pointer height(s).

I didn't try to change the size of that Classic-White Pointer theme.

I've been using this one lately. Downloaded file, then dragged onto the themes window, or maybe this one I had to extract and put the main folder into usr/share/icons folder.

http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ ... ent=163310

It resizes, but only after I'd added the comixcursors using package manager, which seemed to add some dependency previously missing in my Mint MATE which allowed resizing, but now works.
