I'm using linux mint 13 (mate) on my netbook. It worked fine and recently i tried to install an application through software manager and realized that its not longer working, Though I an a newbie, by experience I know some of those problems can resolved by updating. So I tried to update using

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update

Do this:

Code: Select all

sudo mv /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.dud
sudo apt-get update

G'day,

I'm late into this discussion but I too found that my software update would simply fail to start after asking for authentication it would simply sit there and do nothing.

I tried the mv /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.dud and after the apt-get update it only showed me applications I had installed. I copied the fiies back again and ran update again and the problem is fixed. I'm not exactly sure which step is the magic one but at least everything is working again.

Cheers,
A.
