starting wireless with NDISWRAPPER

HI ,
I have installed rtl8192 windows .inf driver using ndiswrapper.
When I run ifconfig in a terminal I can see the wireless adaptor is set as wlan0 .
When I run ifconfig wlan0 up - I get an error unrecocgnised ifconfig id - see output below:

any ideas ?
