Postby alfilr8 on Sat Apr 13, 2013 8:07 pm

Hello, I install Linux Mint 13 Mate in my pc, but with only two days use I get a message that says I have enough space on the hard drive, and I did not even have kept documents or photos or music, nothing. disk my drive is 40 GB, and I have only 1 gb free, I will disk usage analyzer and it appears that in fact I have only 1 gb free.
Investigate the weight of the folders and I is consuming all that space on the hard drive is located in the following path: filesystem / var / log
Log folder is that I take so much room in there the next file that weighs 15 gb: - syslog.1- how do I fix this?

You read the file to find out what it's trying to tell you.

There will be some persistent error being logged to /var/log/syslog. You need to find out what it is. You can also try this command in a terminal:
Code: Select all
dmesg | less

You can scroll up and down the dmesg output. Type q to quit.
To read syslog in the same way:
Code: Select all
cat /var/syslog | less

You can also delete syslog.1 to recover some space quickly:
Code: Select all
sudo rm /var/log/syslog.1

Post some error text here, enclosed in Code markers, which you can select by clicking on the Code button in the toolbar above where you write your forum messages.

ok the mistake was that I could not update the kernel.

$ Sudo apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists ... done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information ... done
The following packages have been kept:
linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic
linux-restricted-modules-generic
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 4 not upgraded.

the solution is:
sudo aptitude full-upgrade

ok thanks for help me.
