Linux Mint 15 No HDMI Sound! Need Your Expertise PLZ

Postby james0658 on Tue May 21, 2013 5:26 pm

Hello community I intsalled Mint 15 got everything working the way I wanted it, then I go to watch a movie plug in my hdmi cable to the tv got a nice picture but no sound. I had to down grade to 14 after that. Works perfectly fine on mint 14, I don't get it when I plug it in sound works great after I switch over to HDMI ouput on sound settings. Oh ya that's another thing on Mint 15 when I go to select sound output it only says I have stereo output and headphone, I also installed PAVU to see if that would work, but it's not reading HDMI either. How does it dispay a picture but absolutly no sound? I love Linux Mint 15, But until I get an answer I'll stick with 14. Thanks!

Here's my specs, I don't know what you need but here's everything
First my Video output:

Lastly why does Mint 14 give me the option to choose hdmi sound output, but not in Mint 15, it acts like it's not even there, I don't get it?

Sorry to answer my own question did a little research and the fix was easy, everything is good now apparently during the release of Mint 15 which is based on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring. They switched off the HDMI sound for Radeon chipet for some silly reason I found a patch at code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive/alsa-daily/+packages. Just go down and pick the oem package .deb and simply install and Reboot. This will give you the HDMI audio back on HDMI for Intel Radeon. This is the package:
Code: Select all
oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms_0.201305171829~raring1_all.deb

Just to confirm, I had the same problem with an AMD Trinity APU. This thread was the first that came up in google. Worked like a charm. Thank you!

Thanks James, this worked great. BTW to anyone coming accross this post... they have updated the drivers so you can't simply copy and past the url, you'll have to navigate through the website to get to the correct file.

I can't seem to find the .deb anywere; just .dsc and .tar files >.< Anyone know where the .deb is?

had to dig quite a bit, but found it: http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-audio-d ... ring-dkms/

Registered to this forum just to say thank you. This solved the problem I had since I first installed Mint 15.

Couldn't find a solution for weeks, but this worked like a charm. Thank you very much!

This fixed it for me on a Dell Latitude, thanks.

I had some confusion finding the correct file, there were a lot to choose from. Hopefully it helps someone, I chose the third folder down and installed this file: oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms_0.201309031657~ubuntu13.04.1_all.deb.

The only issue I have is, when I plug the HDMI cable in, I have to select HDMI audio, and when I unplug it, I have to select internal speakers to get sound back. I would be nice if there were a script that automagically switched it back and forth.

ok I got it going! yipeeeeeeeeeeeee

Mint really rockets along on my new NUC

I did all the sugested downloads, I also did the terminal comands as suggested

but I found the problem in the sound hardware in te bottom right tray right click and under hardware

they have 3 different HDMI options try them all and test speakers until you find which one works

only one of the 3 works for me, did I need to to all the downloads? and terminal comands? maybe?
