Do you mean the update text area is blank or the whole window? If you see any buttons, click on "refresh" a few times. If the whole window is blank, then that is a whole new interesting issue. You may have to log out and log back in. I am just guessing, but it could stem from an update needing a reboot to get cranked up.

Please provide some more details. What splash screen don't come up? The one after GRUB? What did you do prior to this? dist-upgrade, driver installation etc?
