Welcome to Mint.

Were the modem and router on the system when you installed Mint? I am not very technical but on whatever machine I have installed Mint, the hardware has been automatically detected. If you are using a wireless connection and not an ethernet connection you should look in the wiki as there is excellent advise on how to set it up. A search in this forum may also assist you.

Good Luck.

What type of modem is it ?
How does it connect to the PC, Ethernet, USB, wireless ?

If it is ethernet then just plug it into the PCs ethernet port and the network manager will automatically grab and IP Address from the router.
If wireless, let us know what wireless device you have in the PC.

Let us know some more information and I'm sure we'll have you connected in no time !
