You have to use scim which you find in the Control Center

That's precisely the problem, at least as far as I can tell.

I used SCIM successfully in Daryna for months. But damned if I can get the SCIM icon and menu to appear in Elyssa.

I used the same steps to set up SCIM in Elyssa as I did in Daryna, but this time it won't take.

I click on the box that activates SCIM, but it automatically unchecks itself before I can reboot.

I should clarify.

If I reset the language for the OS to Chinese, I can indeed bring up the SCIM icon and interface.

But I can't get the SCIM icon and interface to show up as long as I am using English as the OS language.

I have read that you should use scim-bridge to solve this
For Elyssa
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install scim-bridge-agent scim-bridge-client-gtk scim-bridge-client-qt scim-bridge-client-qt4

Then do
Code: Select all
im-switch -z all_ALL -s scim-bridge

which is done as user or as root if you want it to be system wide
